How close is the NFL to ending its four-month lockout? - CNN (blog)

We'll break down the latest in the debt negotiations and we have a live interview with three members from the U.S. Women's Soccer team on their amazing win. Tune in 6am Eastern. In a major step toward ending the four-month NFL lockout, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced last night that NFL owners have approved a labor deal and a 10- year revenue-sharing agreement with players.

Since the lockout began on March 11th, the two sides have faced off in courts and around conference tables.

The major issues have revolved around how to divide the billions of dollars of revenue reaped via the league each year, rules of free agency, a possible rookie wage scale, retirement benefits and a host of other matters.

The agreement must now be approved by the players.

Today on American Morning, Jon Wertheim, senior writer for Sports Illustrated, explains how close the NFL is to ending the lockout and weighs in on if the football season will officially start on September 8th as planned.
